Decatur Jewelry and Pawn, which recently celebrated its 30th anniversary, is excited to announce that it will be hosting a “Coffee with a Cop” event on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, from 10 a.m. to noon. The event will take place at 1065 W. Pershing Road, Decatur, Illinois.

This initiative is part of a community outreach program to foster positive dialogue and strengthen relations between local law enforcement officials and the community members they serve. “We have a great relationship with local law enforcement and respect the work that they do every day,” said owner Perry Lewin, “this is just a small way to take some time out and celebrate them alongside the community they serve.”

“Coffee with a Cop” offers a unique opportunity for community members to meet the men and women who work in local law enforcement in a casual and stress-free setting. “Over a cup of coffee, residents can meet officers, discuss concerns, share ideas, and address issues that matter most to them and their community,” Lewin explained.

Organizers view this informal gathering as instrumental in building trust and communication lines, which are vital elements for effective community policing and safety.

Lewin, a respected local businessman who has recently joined the Board of Directors of both the Illinois Pawnbrokers Association and the National Pawnbrokers Association said “We understand the importance of community, and this event reflects our commitment to ensuring that Decatur is a place where business, residents, and law enforcement work hand-in-hand.” He added that the community is invited, as well as other local business and community leaders. “The event is open to everyone, and there is no agenda, just good coffee and good conversation,” he added.

Mark your calendars for October 17 and don’t miss this opportunity to strengthen your community ties, understand more about local law enforcement efforts, and have your voice heard in a relaxed setting. More information about the “Coffee with a Cop” event is available on the store’s Facebook page
